"Evolution | Involution"

GROUPSHOW at Gallery LATITUDE 28, Delhi, India feb/march2026

Curator: Khushboo Jain

Consider a single note, floating in space.

What happens if one breaks it down further—the note into vibration, the vibration reduced to a point, the point held as a Bindu? These graphic notations—circles, points, grids, and pulsating geometries—are not merely formal devices. They are propositions: ways of thinking, sensing, and entering states of inwardness. In visual terms, this anatomy is shaped through repetition, movement, and focus, where form evolves, gathers, and returns to a point.

The seven works shown at Latitude 28, emerge as an extension of her meditation practice, the unconditional approach to the moment. Through practice she moves towards the places where language can no longer reach, her concentration is entirely focused on the tip of the brush or the pen, creating Singularity, from which everything is coming into existence: The divine non dual duality, the union of Shiv and Shakti. The union of consciousness and energy. No energy movement - no consciousness. One can’t be experienced without the other. These divine forces are in fact inseparable representations of divine forms/sounds: The eternal play of movement, the dance of life.

Karen Köhler’s works come into existence in the mornings, after meditating for some hours, still with an empty stomach, she is kneeling on the floor and starting to draw with ink on paper, line after line. When concentration is slipping and not resting in the tip of the pen, she is stopping and continuing only next day. On an average day she is drawing 10-20 lines. She is trying to hold the balance of movement and energy expression and awareness. Köhler’s works are able to transcend and incorporate the darkness within and without. The process of drawing itself becomes the center of her art rather than the outcome of an image. This energy is radiated from her work.
